Chapter 1 - Iberian Power Struggle
It began in Iberia, in the land now known as Spain. The year is sometime before the occupation of Mesopotamia, around 8000bc. The people of Iberia, a congregation of newly civilizing Latinus tribes, are land-locking themselves into a series of territorial wars of fortune. To each, the conquest of the land of Iberia means geopolitical dominance of the region.
In these first armies are a series of unnamable tribes and people who likely experienced mass acts of genocide and cremation. It is here after approximately a millennium of wars, perhaps longer, where the Gensusus army gains territorial control of Iberia. After nearly 1000 years of conquering the peninsula; the Gensusus army marks their next target. A small landing zone in Africa, across the Strait of Gibraltar. When the gensusus arrives in approximately 7100-7000bc, they encounter the people known as the Caspians. The Caspians are not a tribal group, or a people unfamiliar with war. In the new Anunnakite territory; The Caspians push the invading Gensusus back into Iberia. It is here where the Caspians gain their first experience of warfare before the treacherous rise of Caspibadaria.
The Gensusus army, having been defeated at the front line, establishes a foothold on the neighboring western islands of the Balearic Sea. Here, on what we now call Palma, Gensusus establishes the conquest of the surrounded sea. They move to the west, establishing foothold colonies along the islands of Cagliari. The Gensusus army believes that they can take the northern land of Africa, but only if they enter from various angles along the coast.
They arrive on the southern edge of Italy, in a place now called Palermo. Unlike the conquest of the Islands, this was not an easy colonization. As fate would have it; The Aegean kingdoms of the east are also inhabiting the land of Palermo, and they are not welcoming to the Gensusus. It is here, in the small region of Palermo, where the first Ibero-Greco war takes place. The Gensusus army, having conquested their own territory from their own people, meet the Aegean armies with a tremendous force. The Aegeans are not expecting an invasion of the land, and likely do not even know who their attackers are.
For centuries, the Gensusus army is caught in conflict with the Aegeans over the territory of Italy. The war wages for so long that they have abandoned their original conquest of Africa. The Aegeans, who likely arrived in Palermo to establish Theban or Athenian colonies, have also abandoned their conquest in favor of defending their homelands from the invading forces. The Aegeans see Gensusus as an incoming threat, assuming that the next target of conquest will be their homelands. The Handle of Italy is not thriving land of colonies. It is a battlefield. One that stays land locked in warfare until around 6000bc.
Chapter 2 - Gensusus Versus Everybody
Was their name really Gensusus? Probably not. Sadly, ancient Latin has been lost to time. Entire words have been erased, other words have been changed, and the romanization of Latinus Terra bred a completely new language similar to the emergence of Old Persian from other Cuneiform. Many of the oldest Latin maps are inscribed with stories that are entirely unreadable. Manuscripts of unrecognized languages have appeared the world over, leading to the assumption that it may have begun as something else entirely. I call them Gensusus as a descriptor. Gens Usus translates from known Latin into "Advanced Nation". A perfectly fitting descriptor for a people who would later become the first foundation of Rome.
The Gensusus army was not a body of illustrious trade or tremendous wealth. They were a conquestual people. A people who built their civilization on warfare and colonization. By approximately 5500bc, the Gensusus army has completely abandoned their conquest of Spain and moved their entire armies to Italy. The purpose of this is a war of destiny. The Gensusus army has now been locked in war with the Aegeans for longer than they can remember, and they begin to form a belief that their sole purpose in life is the destruction of the Aegeans.
While the Gensusus kingdom is busy building small kingdoms through Italy, they're also busy moving up into the north of Greece to Hungary. I believe this where we find the Rohonc Codex. This mysterious book was actually likely written by a Nordo-Hungarian culture that was likely absorbed into the Gensusus empire. It is very likely that Gensusus was capturing slaves and servants from local areas, and this codex was likely written by the survivor of a siege on a settlement. As for the angel, many people claim to have dreams of strange things after a catastrophe, but many of them never mention it prior. It was likely that the journal writer was a religious person who claimed to see an angel in the dream that warned them of the coming invasion.
On the other side of their territory, back in Iberia; A new set of separatist tribes are dismantling the Gensusus kingdom from the inside. Over the course of a century or two, Gensusus is gradually pushed out of Iberia where they establish a permanent settlement in Rome. This did not happen with no resistence. It's likely that Gensusus had to fight off many divisionist tribes here as well, but they are more clustered into a single space at this point. Their army is greater than it was when it was divided. Rome becomes the capital of Gensusus.
Approximately 5000bc, the army of Gensusus has had time to grow, evolve and shape their perimeter around Aegea. Their first battles were likely on land to the north, probably involving the kingdom of Thebes. Thebes prior to this event is a formidable fighting force, led by a series of sharp rulers. But Gensusus is a relentless empire on the rise, willing to fight for as long as the Aegeans are willing to fight. Over time, Thebes begins to dwindle, and Gensusus begins to focus their attention to the south believing that they can carve a different path through the ocean.
It is of note that the Aegean kingdoms and Gensusus were not the only people fighting. Caught in the middle of this was a variety of small tribes, emerging societies, small kingdoms, and less advanced people who were likely fighting both the Aegeans as well as Gensusus. The proto-roman empire was formidable, but likely not formidable enough to battle the Aegean kingdoms and the other people at the same time. That, however, does not mean they didn't fight. Battles of such a wide scale and variety were used as tools of advancement for both major sides. Their experiences aside from each other would introduce elements of the unknown, leading to greater preparation to deal with the unknown. The Aegean kingdoms, having existed for a longer time, have the edge over Gensusus in terms of advancement. They begin to conduct clandestine operations like a sort of ancestral CIA-type body.
Back in Italy, things are actually quite peaceful. The people of Iberia have not invaded, and the civilian society of Gensusus is thriving. Agriculture, stonework, and tool crafts are evolving and growing to be more effective. In this time, the population is growing, securing their future if only temporarily. Boats are being made with sails, but the sails are not as effective as they could be. Priests are maintaining the public with stories of gods, destinies and the first armies of the ancient years. Meanwhile, the Aegeans are not as calm. Industrial revolution is breaking, and people are living in pre-emptive preparation of more attacks from the east, and perhaps attacks from every other direction. More tribes are segmenting from local societies, as well as from the major societies. The spirit of revolt and paranoia is in the air.
